• Lakeland Village Community Center: Arts

Generally Wildomar Rap keeps to stories within the boundaries of the city, but since we don't have our own community center yet, I thought it would be nice to remind people of the opportunities at a few miles north on Grand Avenue at the Lakeland Village Community Center.
A look at the front doors of the community center.
There are a variety of classes offered at the community center. Acting classes, Ballet Folklorico, Tae Kwondo, Tai Chi, Yoga, Zumba and ESL classes. But my key interest was in their art classes.
You are greeted by a decorated wall when you step inside the door.
There is a Saturday "fine art" class, which teaches drawing and painting, starting at age 8 and up. The cost is $30 per month, and they allow "drop ins" at $10 per visit and the classes are held from 10:00am to 12:00pm.

Another class dealing with art that they offer is ceramics. I stopped in at 11:30am on a Tuesday, and there were a few people in there working on their projects.

Ceramics classes are Tuesday mornings 11:00am to 12:30pm, Saturday 11:00am to 12:30pm and they have an "open lab" on Tuesday evenings from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. The costs are $30 per month (one class a week) plus $1 per pound for clay. They also allow for "drop ins" at $10 per visit.
Ceramics student Carissa is seen adding detail to her project.
The ceramics studio has its own kiln too.

As I was speaking about the community center with Grace Sandlin, co-founder of Studio 395, and Matty McCasland (clubhouse director for the Boys and Girls Club) the idea of a community art show came up (it might have been me that mentioned it first ☺).

Though it seems well in the nascent stages, I'd love to see a local art show come to fruition in this area. Lot's of good ideas were suggested to bring in art and art patrons for an evening of fun and celebration of local artists. Here's to crossing my fingers that it has a chance to happen.

Below is a brief video giving you another look into Studio 395 and there is a link to their website down below.
If you, your friends or your kids would like to participate in some community art classes, or some of the other classes offered, be sure to contact the community center for more information... or, visit their website which is linked below.
The community center is clearly marked on Grand Ave.
It's the location of the old Butterfield Elementary School.

I am always doing that which I can not do, in order that I may learn how to do it.

Wildomar Rap is always doing things that which it can not do, and hopes that you've not noticed it yet.
