• Trunk or Treat 2014

What a fun time Trunk or Treat was!

There was no way to take an accurate head count, but if I was going to guess, based on the amount of candy we gave away there must have been a couple of hundred trick or treaters that came from 6pm to 7pm.

People of all ages were dressed in costume, and were enjoying the first cool evening in months. Since it rained the night before, the movie in the park was cancelled... but I'm sure that no one noticed or weren't too disappointed about it.

Many local businesses and organizations were present, handing out candy to happy kids from the trunks of decorated autos. There were too many to note without leaving someone out (watch the video below to see the various participants).

The crowd's favorite display had to be The Haunted Deuce... from Boy Scout Troop 332. The line was was always deep.

A good time was had by all, and I can only imagine how much this event will be anticipated next year. Watch the 4 minute video to get a feel of the evening and a look at most, if not all, of the various cars and orgs that participated.

Many thanks to all those that made this event happen, and be such a success. Your hard work is appreciated and we look forward to the next city event. Breakfast With Santa isn't all that far off. That is scheduled for  Saturday December 13th from 8 to 11AM.

It didn't have the same panache as The Haunted Deuce, but The Haunted Bug had its fans too.         ☺

  1. As usual, thanks for covering the local scene. One addition: I did hear a few comments of disappointment that the movie had been cancelled. I think many would have tolerated sitting on a cold wet blanket and certainly, their lawn chairs, but that doesn't take away from your statement that no one minded. The event was a success without the movie. Also, thanks for your participation as a patron.

    1. I may have been speaking more for myself than I knew when it came to the movie. :)

  2. Last night I was talking with City Manager Gary Nordquist and we have a plan that could yield a year round movie venue in the event of cold and moisture by using the "Parcel 5" between the Little league field and the Cemetery office for a "drive in theatre". We have deets to work out atm. Stay tuned! Bobby Swann

    1. Sounds interesting, but I've been there, and it's a dirt lot and not particularly inviting. Even with all other things being equal (that no one thought it a terribly idea) I still say the park is the place, and when weather interferes, that's just part of life.

Worrying about parking, proper lighting and a plethora of other small things that would become manifest after the fact, makes it more prudent to stay at Marna in my opinion... but I'd still like to hear about it. It's not like I haven't been wrong in the past. :)

  3. It was great to see such a turn out. I ran out of candy, but my neighbors, Theresa with Coldwell Banker and Cheri, with the Wildomar Chamber came to my rescue! More candy next year. Thank you Wildomar Rap for letting everyone see what a good time was had by all. I like the drive in idea too. It was 55 when we left.

    1. The only reason we didn't run out of candy is that Grace usually comes prepared for everything. I was thinking one, maybe two bags of candy. I think Grace went through nine bags. She's already thinking about next year.

  4. Hi Joseph
Last nights event was "well attended" and could be a keeper for years to come. It was a shame that the movie was cancelled as many were hanging around for it up till the end and commented their frustration. One thing to watch for next year is that Cornerstone Community Church also does this type of event (3rd annual) and from the pictures on-line they had over 100 trunks and strive to make it a complete evening with many activities for the children and adults.

A drive-in on excess cemetery property sounds a lot like Little League in the same place. Not

    1. I think I saw the Cornerstone event while walking in my neighborhood. If I'm thinking of the same thing, it was on Halloween night. If I were a parent, I'd be looking for something like that since most neighborhoods don't have nearly as many participants as they did a generation ago.

I'm glad to hear that people were eager for the movie... it looks as if my reporting was revealing my bias more than I knew.
