Jolie Day Spa was a longtime fixture in Wildomar up until just a couple of months ago. |

I've never been a fan of putting the cart before the horse. |
These two places are so close to each other that a string and two soup cans would suffice as a telephone. Do kids of today even know that trick? But I digress. |
The only apparent buffer between the two is the tamale shop on the corner. |
Google suggests that these two places are just 390 feet apart, and that's if you count the office of the school, not just the parking lot where the rest of us consider the school to start. |
However, at the last city council meeting, Councilmember Ben Benoit asked that such ordinances be updated (as seen in the video below).
I'll be updating the community as new information becomes available. Not always will I create a formal blog for such updates. To get such updates, be sure to follow the facebook version of Wildomar Rap at this link.

LOVE THE BARS ON THE WINDOWS....!!! Such a GREAT IMPRESSION ..NOT TO MENTION ACROSS FROM THE SCHOOL...Really Sad...!!!
ReplyDeleteI agree with you. It is really sad... but, as you read, this is a long way from being a done deal.
DeleteYou mention the State License required to sell tobacco products. From the California Department of Tax and Fee Administration https://www.cdtfa.ca.gov/taxes-and-fees/cig-n-tob-prod-lic-reg.htm
ReplyDeleteThe Licensing Act is intended to decrease tax evasion on the sales of cigarettes and tobacco products in California. It does not regulate and distance requirements. For the city to say they will look into this next is just another staff stall tactic.
You also mention that Wildomar is still operating under the county ordinances that were inherited when we became a city in 2008. Those ordinances were not inherited they were adopted by the city council. Why, because we had no money to do otherwise.
Point one: I'm not sure what good stalling would do, but if that's the case, it'll soon play out.
DeletePoint two: This reminds me of a couple of weeks ago when I erroneously chose road "maintenance" over road "work". I can see that using "adopted" would have been more on target than "inherited" but I'm hoping that the meaning was still understood.
Smoke shops and tobacco stores are typically not to be located within 300 feet, measured property line to property line, from a school (public or private), family day care home, child care facility, youth center, community center, recreational facility, park, church or religious institution, hospital, or other similar uses where children regularly gather. What is this distance, not to the entrance you indicated bit to the corner of the facility? What is the City's code?
ReplyDeleteAs you saw in the video clip in the blog, there currently aren't any such specifications. I'm anticipating updated information in the next week or two. Emailing the planning department with your concerns is a good option in the meantime.
DeleteThank you for your concern and for reporting on this issue. I was not happy when I drove past there today and saw the sign.
